Holmes has made 29 Pro12 appearances for the Warriors and a further five in the European Champions Cup, with his senior Scotland cap coming in 2014 against the country of his birth, South Africa.
He spent the 2013 - 2016 seasons at Glasgow Warriors, with whom he won the Pro 12 title in 2015.
In August 2016, Holmes signed for the Newcastle Falcons ahead of the 2016/17 season.
