In his first season with Pontypridd RFC, Barnes became a big favourite with the club's fan base and was nominated as both Forward of the Year and Player of the Year in May 2016.
The Beddau product, who was formerly a member of the Blues Academy, joined up with Pontypridd at the beginning of the 2016 season and quickly made a significant impression.
Late 2016 saw him sign for Cardiff Blues' 2016/17 season.
