Nizaam Carr, hailing from Diocesan College (Bishops), one of South Africa's renowned rugby schools, has consistently lived up to expectations since his inclusion in the South African Schools team in 2009.
Immediately contracted to Western Province after school, Carr quickly amassed representative honors, featuring for Western Province at the U18, U19, and U21 levels. He also achieved success by winning the 2011 Varsity Cup with the University of Cape Town. Carr's talent and speed earned him a spot in the South African U20 team for the IRB U20 World Cup, further solidifying his potential.
In 2011, Carr made his Currie Cup debut as a replacement for Western Province against the Lions. His impressive performances led to his inclusion in the Stormers' squad for the 2012 Super Rugby season, where he earned seven caps before suffering a knee injury.
Despite the setback, Carr became a regular fixture in both the Stormers and Western Province Currie Cup teams, showcasing his skills as a utility loose forward. In 2016, he was selected for the South Africa 'A' squad in a two-match series against the touring England Saxons.
By the start of the 2017 season, Carr had already accumulated 30 points in 67 Super Rugby appearances since his debut in 2012. He made 15 appearances for the Stormers during the 2017 season, contributing to the team's success in reaching the knockout stages of the competition. Additionally, Carr surpassed the 50-cap milestone for Western Province in the Currie Cup, helping the team secure their record 34th title.
Carr's talents caught the attention of English club side Wasps, leading to a three-month contract with the team. However, he remained available for the Stormers' 2018 Super Rugby campaign. Following a successful loan spell at Coventry, Carr signed a long-term contract with Wasps at the end of the 2017/18 season.
His performances did not go unnoticed, as Carr was recalled to the Springbok squad for the 2018 June Internationals. Known for his uncompromising and robust style of play, Carr primarily operates as a no.8 but can also slot in on either side of the scrum due to his versatility. His relentless abilities on the field make him an invaluable asset for any team.
In June 2020, Carr made the move to the Bulls, further strengthening his career and contributing to the success of the team. With his athleticism and skill set, Carr continues to leave a lasting impact on the rugby landscape, showcasing his unwavering determination and dedication to the sport.
