Williams began his rugby career at Llanelli in the Welsh Premiership in the 2002/2003 season, going on to represent the regional team, the Scarlets, in the first year of regional rugby in Wales 2003/2004. Nathan played for the Welsh U16 (2001), U17 (2002), U18 (2003), U19 (2004) and U21 (2005) International teams and Welsh Clubs XV, playing in the IRB Junior World Championships in 2002. His most abiding rugby memory is of playing for the Welsh U18 side in 2003 against Argentina in a World Cup match that Argentina won after extra-time by a penalty shoot-out. As Nathan said, a searing experience like this scars you for life. In 2007 he signed for English Championship side, Moseley, both as a professional rugby player and a Schools/Community rugby coach.
He was included in the Birmingham Post's Midlands Select XV after 27 appearances in the 2007/08 season and again in 2008/09, playing an essential part of the Twickenham Cup winning team.
Nathan signed for the Dragons at the beginning of the 2011/2012 season after 4 seasons at Moseley and has regularly been in the Dragons matchday squad over the first half of the season.
