A product of Ulster's academy, Chirs Henry was a hard hitting, strong flanker who played for Malone RFC, Wallace HS and Ballymena RFC, before earning provincial and international honours, and has recently been turning out for Malone again.
A versatile back-row with strength in spades, was selected in Ireland’s end of year squad in 2009, he made his debut in an Autumn international against Australia in 2010.
Henry also captained Ulster in the 2009/10 season and was named as the province’s player of the year in their run to the 2012 Heineken Cup Final.
Just as he broke into the Irish rugby first team in November 2014, Henry suffered a blocked blood vessel in his brain. While it was initially thought Henry would have to give up the game, he successfully recovered to star for Ulster at the back end of the 2015 season.
He was then named in the final 31-man squad to represent Ireland at the Rugby World Cup in England, capping a remarkable recovery.
Henry made his Ireland debut against Australia in June 2010 and went on to earn 24 caps. Henry played 184 times for Ulster after his debut against Harlequins in January 2009, making his final appearance against the Scarlets in September.
In November 2018, he announced his retirement from rugby and has since taken over as head coach of Malone rugby club.
