Full time whistle goes and it's Cardiff who hold out for a deserved 21-15 victory. Edinburgh to their credit battled away valiantly but they never led throughout the game. Even though the lead never changed hands, the momentum of the game did swing to and fro as Edinburgh looked to be in the ascendancy at times but could never reel them back in. The 14-0 lead held at the break by Cardiff was possibly the telling factor as they always had a certain amount of breeding space.
Edinburgh lose their numerical advantage as winger Dougie Fife is sent to the bin for the remaining two minutes after a dangerous tackle.
TRY EDINBURGH. Rolling maul from Edinburgh and it's Roddy Grant who gets the ball down. Jack Cuthbert misses with a difficult conversion. Six between the sides entering the last ten minutes. 21-15.
Yellow card for Cardiff flanker Josh Turnbull. With just over 10 to play this could be Edinburgh's chance to make something of the game.
TRY CARDIFF. The Blues reassert their lead with a try from out-half Patchell. Replacement Macauley Cook made the initial break before Patchell finished and converted from out wide. 21-10.
TRY EDINBURGH. No disputing this one as powerful winger Tim Visser bursts over for his sides first try. Conversion is good from Heathcote and only four points separate the sides. 14-10
TMO is called in once again and this time it's Edinburgh who are almost in but a forward pass is called. The Scottish team are looking much sharper this half.
Jack Cuthbert clears from close to his line at the second time of asking, looked dangerous for Edinburgh momentarily.
PENALTY EDINBURGH. Half-time replacement Tom Heathcote gets his side off the mark with a penalty. Just the start the visitors would have hoped for, can they push on now. 14-3
Second half is underway. Cardiff will hope to build on their position at half time. Although the game was even for most of the opening period, Cardiff were the only side creating genuine try scoring opportunities and so are probably deserved of their lead. Edinburgh are not entirely out of this contest however and a quick start here could see them come right back into this.
