Top 14, round 10 debrief

Clermont win in Lyon, Dréan sees triple at Mayol and the UBB signs a comeback, Paris puts an end to the curse of Jean-Bouin…

Castres gets scared, Montpellier improves

To open round 10,  Toulon took care of its recovery. At Mayol, the Varois were held until the break (17-13) by Bayonne before finding the fault in the second act. Dréan, Serin and Smaili went into the in-goal area to allow the RCT to sign a second victory in a row . During the Multiplex, Castres gave themselves a scare. 28-6 at the break before the Rochelais woke up and heckled the Tarnais who won 28-24 . A double from Palis and a try from Séguret allowed them to win. Less suspense on the other hand in Toulouse and Montpellier. The two Occitanie teams signed bonus victories. The Red and Blacks broke the Catalan lock in the second act after having struggled for a long time. Graou, Vergé, Willis, Cramont and Ntamack scored for the reigning French champions.

Paris conjures the curse
The MHR, who were opposed to Pau, negotiated the arrival of the Béarnais well. Victory at 5 points 30-3, Coly, Camara and Duguid distinguished themselves during this great performance of the Cistes. Clermont traveling to Lyon delighted its supporters by signing a victory at Gerland on the score of 22-30 . Saturday ended with an incredible comeback of the Girondins. Trailing 29-7 at the time of returning to the locker room, the Bordelo-Béglais reacted by achieving a 0-30 in the second act . Victory at the Rabine of the UBB 29-37. Finally, after 6 and 11 months without winning the derby at home, the Stade Français beat Racing 92 . All in style since the Pink Soldiers won with the bonus 40-27 in the wake of a very lively Lester Etien, author of a double.

The stat > 1. Clermont moves up to first class

This is the first away victory for the Auvergnats . Defeated by conceding the offensive bonus during the last two trips to Toulouse and Paris, the Jaunards were able to find the solution against Lyon. Leading 10-17 at half-time, the Clermontois quickly took control of the game and never let go. Moala followed by Fourcade were the first to find the way to the in-goal area , they then had to resist the passion of Couilloud and it was Tauzin who gave ASM a valuable advantage . A final try by Dumortier rekindled the suspense, cut short by the boot of Belleau, who scored two penalties at the end of the game . Final score 22-30.

The statement > Yann Lesgourgues (UBB scrum-half)

"We got through the first half. We were doing whatever we wanted... There wasn't much to say at half-time. We didn't panic, we held the ball and it worked. That's the only thing to remember."

The image > Dréan triples the stake

Without a disallowed try he could have scored four goals. But RCT winger Gaël Dréan should be satisfied with this magnificent hat-trick, not to mention the many defenders beaten and classy actions he performed throughout the match. Literally unstoppable against Bayonne, the Breton scored in the 6th, 12th and 67th minutes . His total is now 5 tries and he has made a fantastic comeback in the top scorers rankings by taking 8th place .
