Born in Birmingham, England to Irish parentage, O’Dea has began to earn a reputation as one of Ireland’s foremost young backs. His impressive form for his club side, Shannon, earned him a chance in Munster first team reckoning, and he took it with aplomb-scoring on his debut against Edinburgh in late 2011. O’Dea’s form impressed Munster enough for him to be offered a development contract in March 2012. O’Dea played and scored in Munster’s victorious British and Irish Cup final of 2011-2012 final, where Munster beat Cross Keys.
