Although not as big as many top-flight props, Hugh uses his increased mobility to his advantage and is a very effective defensive line-breaker for the Men of Gwent.
Although back problems kept him out of some of the 2008/09 season, Gustafson returned to fine form at the start of the 2009/10 season.
By season’s end he had appeared in nearly sixty matches overall with many more expected of him. Hugh possesses a strong rugby knowledge having led teams since junior grade, and is a key part of the coaching team of the Dragons Under 16 side.
In February 2016, Hugh signed a contract with the Ospreys for their 2016/17 campaign.
