Born in Leicester, Hurd went to Ashby School before moving to Loughborough College and on to Cardiff Metropolitan University to study Business Management.
With Scottish relatives on his mother’s side, Hurd was selected as part of Scotland Rugby’s 2019 Under-20s squad for the Six Nations and Junior World Championship in Argentina.
As a youngster, Hurd played junior rugby at Ashby RFC and – in the Under-10s – took part in the Prima Tiger Cup at Mattioli Woods Welford Road, as well as attending Tigers Rugby Camps with Ashby and at Coalville RFC.
In February 2021, he signed a deal with Leicester Tigers.
