Representing Namibia at the U19 World Cup in 2004 and 2005, Blaauw made the move to South Africa, and after a short stint with the Leopards U21 and senior team, he was snapped up by Western Province. From 2008, he made the loosehead jersey his own as his powerful scrumming dominated in both Super Rugby and Currie Cup. Signing with Biarritz in late 2012, he played for the French outfit in the Top 14 and Heineken Cup before transferring to Murrayfield in August 2013 and locking down the scrums for the Edinburgh Gunners.
