France fly-half Romain Ntamack will be suspended for their next Six Nations game against Italy but could return for their heavyweight matchup with Ireland two weeks later.
Ntamack received a yellow card for a shoulder-to-head tackle on Ben Thomas in the latter stages of France's 43-0 victory over Wales on matchday one.
A suspension covering six matches – which would have ended his Six Nations campaign – was initially mooted, but the disciplinary committee halved that punishment when Ntamack admitted to an act of foul play.
He was forced to sit out France's dramatic defeat to England at Twickenham last week and tournament organisers have now confirmed he will also miss the trip to Rome on February 23.
But after Ntamack takes part in World Rugby's coaching intervention programme, which is aimed at educating players on techniques to avoid dangerous foul play, he will be able to face Ireland on March 8.
France are currently second in the Six Nations standings with six points, above England on points difference but four points below Ireland.
