Brumbies women name team for trial match v NSW Waratahs

The Brumbies Super Rugby Women’s head coach Andy Friend has unveiled his squad headed to Campbelltown Harlequins Rugby Club to take on the NSW Waratahs this Saturday at 3:00pm AEDT.

The 26 strong squad heading north will see a close to a full-strength roster ready to take on the Waratahs in Sydney as multiple players will get their first hit-out of the year.

Lining up at flanker for their first match of 2025 is Edwina Munns-Cook who joins the run-out side on Saturday. Fijian international Ana Naimasi also lines up in the starting XV to don the Brumbies jersey for the first time in her career.

”We are taking 26 girls up to Campbelltown which will mean that we've got three additional subs that we normally don't have. We'd like to share the load a little bit and give everyone that chance to show us what they've got,” said Friend.

“We just want to see an improvement on whatever their first run was. Continue to do the things that they shone in, but also to tidy up the areas where there was a bit of rust.”

The squad looks to put their recent learnings to use, following last weeks’ clash against the Queensland Reds, before heading into the first round of the 2025 Super Rugby Women’s season against the Western Force in Perth on Saturday 1st March.

Despite the loss, Friend has taken plenty of positives from the Reds trial, maintaining his side's skill is already showing in spades.

“None of our errors in the Reds trial were skill errors, they're all just execution errors. we had a bit of rust there. But I was really happy with the intent of the players and we'll be better for that loss,” said Friend.
