Legendary tighthead Adam ‘Bomb’ Jones will join Wales’ coaching staff as scrum consultant for the 2025 Guinness Six Nations.
Jones will embark on a secondment with the Welsh national team during the Premiership Rugby Cup window to provide support to Warren Gatland as a scrummaging specialist throughout the upcoming Championship.
The Abercrave-born prop earned 95 caps for his country during his playing career, in which he won four Six Nations titles, competed in three Rugby World Cups and toured with the British and Irish Lions on two occasions: first in 2009 and then on the victorious 2013 tour to Australia.
Jones will link up with Gatland’s coaching staff after Harlequins’ Gallagher Premiership fixture against Northampton Saints at The Stoop on Friday 24 January (19:45).
While fulfilling his scrum consultancy role, Jones will continue to be integrated into Danny Wilson’s coaching team and provide remote scrum analysis throughout the Premiership Rugby Cup campaign.
Former Harlequins hooker and Head Coach of Strategic Club Partner London Scottish, Joe Gray will also lean in to assist the coaching room during the Premiership Cup period for fixtures against Ealing Trailfinders and Saracens.
Following Wales’ final Guinness Six Nations fixture against England at the Principality Stadium (Saturday 15 March, 15:00), Jones will return to The Club as the Gallagher Premiership sparks back into life with a trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to face Saracens in The Showdown (Saturday 22 March, 15:05).
Director of Rugby, Billy Millard said: “Representing your country as a player or a coach is a great honour. When we were informed of Adam’s opportunity, we wanted to work collaboratively with him and the Welsh Rugby Union on a solution that catered for all.
“We have no doubt he’ll benefit greatly from the exposure of coaching at international level and take learnings from the experience, while continuing to support Danny [Wilson] and the wider coaching staff throughout the Premiership Rugby Cup campaign.”
Adam Jones added: “First of all, I would like to thank Harlequins for the opportunity to join the Wales coaching setup for the Six Nations.
“I’m looking forward to working with Gats and Humphs, two big influences on my career as a player - it’s all moved quickly but I’m looking forward to it.
“It's going to be a challenge coming from the Gallagher Premiership and this is my first taste of coaching international rugby, so there will be learning process for me as well but it’s great opportunity to make an impact and aid my development as a coach.”
