Born in Basingstoke, Hampshire, Butler qualifies for Scotland through his Glasgow-born grandfather.
Previously of the London Irish academy, Butler is currently enrolled at Hartpury College, where he competes in the BUCS Super League.
The back-row has previously represented Scotland at U18 level.
He has been included in Scotland u20s squad for the 2018 Six Nations.
Heading into the 2019/20 season he has 3 first XV appearances.
