Schooled in the Eastern Cape, Gerber’s talents were spotted early as he represented South Africa in the U19 World Cup in 1999. Two years later he made his senior competitive debut for Eastern Province and remained at the Province until moving to the Pumas in 2003. A brief stint with the Sharks in 2004 and a return to the Pumas for 2005&2006 gave the No.12 all the experience he needed to head to France. Bayonne signed the dynamic back after the 2006 Currie Cup where he is still contracted.
