Rod’s selection in the Wallabies initial 40-man squad was ample reward for the enormous strides made during his third season of professional rugby, where he scored five tries in 12 games for the Reds including a hat trick against the Blues in the semi-final. That three-try effort made the squad’s fastest man the first Reds representative in the professional rugby era to score a hat-trick in one match.
Rod made the decision to return to the 15-a-side code in 2009 following two seasons playing rugby league with the Brisbane Broncos. Rod’s first taste with the Reds came on their Development Tour of Ireland and France at the end of 2008, ahead of his first Super 14 season in 2009, where he provided useful service in his five appearances before earning himself a spot in the Australian Under 20 side at the IRB U20 World Championships.
Davies won Super Rugby with the Reds in 2011 and went on to play for Biarritz before returning and signing for the Western Force.
Rocket Rod Davies joined up with the Australian 7's side in the 2018/19 season and signed on with the squad on a permanent 3 year deal in the middle of 2019
