Hailing from Belfast, Lutton’s rugby education included a spell in New Zealand with Canterbury before returning to play club rugby for Belfast Harlequins in 2011.
His displays there brought awards and a call-up to the Ulster 'A' side, awarded the 'Club Player of the Year' at the Heineken Ulster Rugby Awards in May 2012. He joined the Ulster set-up in 2012/13 as a specialist tight-head prop. His ability to perform capably on the other side of the front row has made him a valuable and versatile option for the management team.
At the end of the 2016-17 season, Lutton was released from the club.
