The Wynberg scholar flew under the radar in his junior years and was relatively unheard of until breaking onto the scene in the U21 Currie Cup in 2012 where he picked up a main of the match performance on debut for Western Province.
2013 saw his introduction into the Varsity Cup with the University of Cape Town and this time led the WP U21 team to Currie Cup victory at Newlands. A senior Currie Cup debut against Griquas accompanied a great season for Katzen who is earmarked with a great rugby future.
