The son of Ivor Taylor, a member of the Newport team which famously beat the Springboks in 1969, Mark Taylor was the first person to score a try at Cardiff’s newly-built Millennium Stadium in Wales’ 29-19 victory over South Africa in 1999, the nation’s first ever victory over the Springboks.
Taylor – who won 52 caps for Wales and captained the side on four occasions – made his Lions debut in the 2001 tour to Australia.
While he did not feature in any of the three Tests, the centre played in five warm-up matches, scoring a try apiece against Western Australia and Australia A in Perth and Gosford respectively.
