Shane Byrne was almost 34 when his first – and only – call-up to the Lions arrived for the Tour to New Zealand in 2005.
After waiting in the wings behind the great Keith Wood, the Ireland hooker was a late bloomer on the international scene and won 41 caps in total for his country.
On the Lions Tour to New Zealand, Byrne – who was famous for his mullet haircut – appeared in seven games in total.
He won three Test caps, starting the first and third games against the All Blacks and coming off the bench to replace Steve Thompson in the second.
