Watch: Peter Betham helps Clermont sink La Rochelle in O'Gara first game in charge
- 2325
Former Leicester Tiger and Wallaby winger Peter Betham was in fine form for Clermont in their opening TOP 14 match of the season as he had a hand in all three of Clermont's tries helping last season's finalist to a 28-10 victory over La Rochelle.
Ronan O'Gara's first game in charge of La Rochelle was far from ideal with former All Black Tawera Kerr-Barlow being shown a yellow card in the 6th minute before Betham scored his first try and shortly after Betham's second La Rochelle were reduced to 14 men with Sila Puafisi shown a straight red card for a high tackle on Jake McIntyre.
Betham's first try came from a turnover at the lineout before a nice touch by Jake McIntyre sent Isaia Toeava through a gap which put Jacobus van Tonder into space with the South African finding Betham in support.
His second try came from a deft cross kick from Jake McIntyre which fell perfectly for two-time Wallaby.
Betham capped off his game as he dived on the ball from a chip over the top before he delivered a superb offload to Judicaël Cancoriet to score.
