Top Performers : Highlanders vs Jaguares
- 1261
The Highlanders will feel that they managed to get away with one tonight as they lapsed in concentration in the second half. The end score was 32 -27 and while it may not feel like it was left to a one score game. It was the Highlanders who entered into the break with the lead having struggled in the opening minutes. However, they did just enough to hang on as the away side mounted the pressure in the second half. This will not be a bad start to the Jaquares tour of Australiasia.
We look at tonight's top performers:
Josh Ioane - Highlanders
They call him the new kid on the block and the first five-eighth did not disappoint once again tonight. While he scored 12 points tonight, which came from the boot he further assisted two more tries. Both his assist came off some hard running at the line and a great sixth sense to initiate the offload for his outside runners. He further racked up 40 running metres beating four defenders for an overall excellent effort. The 23-year-old will be proud of his performances in this year’s Super Rugby campaign.
Ramiro Moyano - Jaguares
While he is most comfortable in the fullback position he caused plenty of problems for the opposition as he ran in just short of 100 metres from the wing. Argentine international who has score 75 points since making his debut was once again on scoring form tonight as he dotted over his sides last try. Unfortunately, his try was not enough to bring the travelling side to a victory tonight. He was also influential at the break down as he made a key steal.
Rob Thompson - Highlanders
One of the most underrated attacking centres in the game at the moment. 86 running metres, bringing him in the top five metres made, by the outside centre tonight as he continued his fine form for the Highlanders tonight. He also managed to make two clean breaks in the process which put the home side on the front foot and allowed some quick ball for Aaron Smith. With two young men on his outside, Thompson has done well to bring a calming presence to the Highlanders backline.
Marcos Kremer - Jaguares
Powerful performance by the 21-year-old tonight. Many are still astounded when they match his age to his performances as he continues to cut well above his weight and many people’s expectations. Marcos Kremer did everything right from the lock position tonight. While he is regularly seen in the loose trio he would have added an additional dynamic to the Jaguares game plan for the evening. His break in the 42nd minute was that of a backline player as he broke one tackle putting his head down to go over for a much-needed try.
