Saturday Super Rugby Top Performers
- 1316
Saturday got underway with 3 Super Rugby games with the Hurricanes and Brumbies grabbing a win and the Highlanders and Chiefs playing to a thrilling 31 all draw. Here are the top performers
Ardie Savea and Beauden Barrett stood out for the Hurricanes in their win over the Rebels in a game that saw them shoot to a significant lead after 20 minutes only to fall off on scoring too much more. The Rebels made a comeback but were unable to take the lead. Savea was a menace at the break down and in the tackle area making all 19 of his tackles while Beauden Barrett was in his usual try scoring and defender beating mood.
A game the Chiefs never lead but managed to salvage at the death had a number of key players and moments. Luke Jacobson played phenomenal rugby and was the star of today's show. He seemed unable to be taken down by anything less than two men. Turned over two balls in the breakdowns, scored a try and ran for 42m with ball in hand. Tyler Ardron did alot of donkey work and used his physical presence to retain the ball. Scored a valuable try. The halfback pairing of Aaron Smith and Josh Ioane were great for the Highlanders and both contributed with fine performances
Folau Faingaa carried strongly and was the center piece of a dominant pack which saw him claim a hat trick of tries all from driving mauls for the Brumbies in their win. The Brumbies pack as a whole needs a mention for their work in the loose as well as set pieces. Melani Nanai was constant threat with ball in hand, great step and break with a superb offload setting up the games opening try.
