Reports: Joey Carbery to sign a two-year deal with Munster

According to a report in today’s Irish Independent, Munster are set to finalise a two-year deal with Leinster utility-back Joey Carbery, as the 22-year-old looks to secure consistent game time at flyhalf ahead of next year’s World Cup.
Ireland coach Joe Schmidt is expected to address the matter at his first press conference since the Six Nations later today, having played a role in convincing Carbery to leave Leinster to further benefit his development.
The report also states that the move may not be confirmed until after the squad travels to Australia as the final details of an expected two-year deal are worked out.
Leinster have primarily used Carbery as a fullback for most of the year with Schmidt needing his international back-up to Johnny Sexton to play more in his preferred position.
Initially, a move to Ulster was suggested to both Carbery and Leinster’s second-choice fly-half Rose Byrne but after further discussion the idea of transferring south appealed to Carbery.
He reportedly met with Munster coach Johann van Graan last week to discuss a potential move and it looks like the prospect of playing alongside Conor Murray and working under the highly-rated Felix Jones has swung the deal towards the Southern province.
