Pro14 Round 15 Preview: Dragons vs Scarlets
- 1016
As the thirty players stood still on the pitch at Rodney Parade, with the mud beneath their boots and the mist swirling in the cold night air, waiting in anticipation for the referee’s whistle to ignite the Round 8 encounter, no one could have guessed that the game would conclude in the nail-biting manner in which it did.
Many pairs of eyes will be glued to their television screens when this Welsh derby repeats itself in Round 15, kicking off the first of Saturday’s fixtures.
In a clash which was a celebration of Welsh forward flair, Dragons took the spoils in a most dramatic fashion when, after the final hooter and with the steam rising off the heaving, muddied figures on a torn up pitch, fly-half Sam Davies sent the ball through the middle of the posts to evolve the score from 20-19 in Scarlets’ favour to 22-19 to the Dragons.
This match-up, at the same venue, is sure to be another fiery affair with Scarlets thirsty for revenge after snatching defeat from the jaws of victory against their fellow countrymen.
If the weather decides to provide different conditions, another type of game might be on the cards. If not, expect more of the same fierce forward contest with the boots of the fly-halves keeping the scoreboard ticking.
Dragons are sitting on 24 points and 5th position in Conference A while Scarlets are looking good in Conference B, currently occupying 3rd spot with 42 points to their name.
