Premiership: Round 4 Wrap-Up
- 2099
Harlequins vs Bristol Bears:
Quins left the turf at the Twickenham Stoop with smiles on their faces after they thrashed Bristol 52-24.
It was a remarkable comeback from the hosts who found themselves 21-0 down after 26 minutes.
The score at half-time read 24-7 but Harlequins were magnificent in the second half and ran in a massive 7 tries.
Exeter vs Worcester:
Exeter turned the screws on Worcester Warriors at Sandy Park. The game started slowly as the clock showed 22 minutes gone before the first points were registered through Exeter’s first try. Thereafter, it was all the Chiefs as they ran in another 5 tries against a lacklustre Warriors outfit.
Gloucester vs Sale Sharks:
A nail-biter saw the Cherry & Whites pip Sale at Kingsholm in the former’s second victory of the competition.
The home side started strongly, running up a 15-0 lead after 31 minutes before Sale struck back through a well-worked try to Raffi Quirke.
Gloucester dotted down again courtesy of Louis Rees-Zammit and Sale slotted a penalty on the stroke of half-time to take the score to 20-10.
Sale closed the gap ten minutes into the second stanza with a try by Arron Reed but great work by Rees-Zammit saw him run in his second shortly thereafter.
As Adam Hastings sent over a drop-goal to take the score to 33-15, it looked as if the Cherry & Whites were home and dry but the comeback from Sale in the closing stages of the game was something to behold.
London Irish vs Leicester:
The Tigers continued their winning ways with a 21-16 victory over the Exiles at the Brentford Community stadium.
A low-scoring encounter, the Tigers ran in two tires to the Exiles’ one, with Leicester flyhlaf George Ford’s boot once again proving to be a significant factor.
Saracens vs Newcastle Falcons:
A strong second half from Saracens saw them run out 37-23 home winners over the Newcastle Falcons in round 4 of the Premiership.
Saracens picked up a yellow card just seven minutes into the encounter, but opened the scoring with a penalty. Newcastle scored a try 15 minutes in and added a second score midway through the first half to lead 14-3. The Falcons added a penalty around the half hour mark, but Saracens were awarded a late first half penalty try, with Newcastle picking up a yellow card as the hosts trailed 17-10 at the break.
Seven minutes into the second half the scores were level after a Saracens try and a second five minutes later saw the home side in front 24-17. Saracens then kicked a penalty to head into the final quarter with a 27-17 lead. The sides traded penalties before a second for Newcastle put them in losing bonus point territory, trailing 30-23 with just two minutes remaining. However, Saracens would deliver a cruel blow with time up on the clock, crossing for the bonus point fourth try and in the process denying the Falcons a losing bonus point.
Wasps vs Northampton Saints:
The Saints tasted defeat for the first time this season as they fell to Wasps at the Ricoh Arena, 26-20.
It was a tightly contested affair but the home side proved too much for Saints to contain.
Kibirige and Robson picked up tries for the hosts while Saints’ Matavesi, Ludlam, Fish scored for them.
Discipline was, ultimately, the deciding factor as 12 points came Wasps’ way through penalties.
