New Zealand Player Ratings v England
- 4211
Manu Tuilagi's early try set the tone as England shattered New Zealand's hopes of winning an unprecedented third consecutive Rugby World Cup and moved into the final with a famous 19-7 victory.
Steve Hansen's men were well and truely outplayed by England and here is how we rated them:
1. Joe Moody – 5
The Crusaders prop was solid at scrum time and was very busy on defence, making 13 tackles. Couldn't have asked him much more from him in his position.
2. Codie Taylor – 4
He went off in the 50th minute after some troubles at lineout time. He also tried to make himself a nuisance at the breakdown and even made a few big tackles.
3. Nepo Laulala – 4
He was penalised once at scrum time and to be honest looked a bit overwhelmed with the occasion. He was substituted in the 55th minute too!
4. Brodie Retallick – 7
He certainly wasn't at his best today, but he did put in a big workload around the field and had a nice break that could have led to more.
He contested the lineout well too.
5. Sam Whitelock –4
He was pulled off after 65 minutes of play and really didn't have a very good game… He gave away a silly penalty, did very little with the ball in hand and didn't really inspire his side when they needed it the most.
6 Scott Barrett – 6
We were very surprised that he was taken off at half-time! He might not have brought exactly what Hansen wanted but he was busy on attack and defence in the first half. Barret also showed great commitment and great pace chased down Johnny May.
7. Ardie Savea – 8
He was arguably the All Blacks busiest and best player on the park today. He scored a valuable try and also managed to steal crucial ball at times. He made 18 tackles and made 9 carries with ball in hand!
8 Kieran Read – 5
He might of made 14 tackles, but really Read was very ineffective today.
9 Aaron Smith – 6
He didn't have it all his own way today but he put in a solid display nonetheless. Smith played 55 minutes of the game and got his side out of trouble on a few occasions.
10 Richie Mo’unga – 5
He tried to mix things up for his side but ultimately couldn't get things ticking with his side on the constant back foot. The English rush defense really limited his play today.
11 George Bridge – 4
Didn't really get much opportunity to run with the ball, but he did look safe under the high ball. He made one bad error today as he failed to kick a ball out along the touch line.
12 Anton Lienert-Brown – 5
Put in a big defensive effort today, but offered very little on attack. Some might think that we are being a little harsh here but he really didn't allow the players outside of him to play. Made 95% of his tackles today!
13 Jack Goodhue – 4
Played 55 minutes of the game and while he was reliable on defence, he did not really offer much going forward.
14 Sevu Reece – 6
Probably the best back on the park for the All Blacks, he chased the high ball well and tried tirelessly to make something out of nothing.
15 Beauden Barrett – 5
He really didn't have his usual game but he did try to spark something for the All Blacks in the dying minutes of the game but ultimately couldn’t do anything to stop his side from getting knocked out
