London Irish is pleased to announce that Academy product Chunya Munga has signed a new contract with the Club.
The 22-year-old second-row forward signed on the dotted line at the Hazelwood Centre to continue his stay with the Exiles, a decision that Munga expressed his happiness about.
“I’m thankful to the Club to allow me to continue playing for London Irish, a lot of people have helped me reach the position of being able to play for the senior team and that’s something I’ll always be grateful for.
“I’m really enjoying my rugby at the moment because we are part of a really special set-up here, and I am really looking forward to continuing as an Exile.”
Munga earned his first competitive appearance for the Boys in Green at the beginning of the 2019/20 season away to Bristol Bears in the Premiership Rugby Cup, since accumulating 45 run-outs.
The former England under-20 international has played in every major competition for Irish in his four years under Declan Kidney, including in the Heineken Champions Cup this term.
He has the second-highest lineout receptions off Irish’s own throws this season in the Premiership, which has led him to be nominated for the Rugby Players’ Association’s 15 Under-23 MVP for November.
Declan Kidney, London Irish Director of Rugby, praised the efforts of the lock talent in reaching another significant career milestone.
“Chunya has really come into his own lately and has showed excellent qualities, both on and off the pitch, that warrants his new contract here with us,” he pronounced.
“Myself and the coaches look forward to what he can bring to the team in the future, he is still very young but he has potential to reach even bigger heights with us.”
