Australia Rugby will lose the services of key backrower Sean McMahon, who has confirmed he will take up a lucrative two-year deal to play in Japan for the next two seasons.
The Melbourne Rebels forward is likely to miss out on the 2019 World Cup with the Wallabies due to his contractual agreements, he is believed to be joining Suntory in the Top League, alongside former Wallaby Matt Giteau.
The 23-year old and his wife, who is a teacher in Queensland, both agreed the move was for the best, despite the prospect of missing out on the 2019 RWC, which is set to take place in Japan.
“We’re done with the Rebels after this season, all I can say is I won’t be playing in Australia next year, I will be gone for two years,” McMahon said.
“It was a very big call I’ve made. There were a few factors that came into it, a few personal ones and a few other issues that I don’t really want to go into.
