Josh McKay signs two-year extension with Highlanders

The Highlanders have tied down one of the most promising young backs in New Zealand for another two years.
Canterbury outside back Josh McKay has re-signed with the franchise after making appearances (one start) during his rookie season this year.
McKay has been signed predominantly as a fullback, and Aaron Mauger has made it clear he doesn't see the speedster as a first-five eighth option, despite him shining as a pivot for Christchurch Boys'.
"I haven't had much consistent game-time at first-five since high school," said McKay, who will start on the wing for Canterbury against undefeated Bay of Plenty in Tauranga on Saturday.
"With where I've been the last couple of seasons, I'm certainly an outside back now. There's a few role models down south to learn off. Obviously Ben Smith is someone, as an aspiring fullback, I could certainly learn to mould my game off."
