Ireland captain and flyhalf Jonathan Sexton is set to return for Ireland's final Autumn Nations Cup clash against Scotland this weekend.
Sexton suffered a hamstring injury and missed Ireland's clashes with England and Georgia with Ross Byrne taking over the pivot role against England and Billy Burns against Georgia. Meanwhile, James Ryan led the side in the absence of the experienced out half.
Ireland head coach Andy Farrell confirmed that he expects the Leinster man back for Saturday’s huge Autumn Nations Cup play-off clash with Scotland.
“Yes,” said Farrell when asked if Sexton will make his return after missing the last two games.
“He’s doing pretty well with his rehab.”
Despite Sexton's fitness boost, Ireland do have a few injury concerns following the clash with Georgia. Winger Keith Earls suffered a back spasm and was unable to finish the game while flanker Will Connors was forced off with a head injury. Pivot Billy Burns sustained a groin injury during the warm-up but managed to play 46 minutes before limping off. Hooker Rob Herring picked up a rib injury, and Conor Murray suffered a dead leg.
