Exiles look to make it two in a row as Sale Sharks close in

Sale will hope their frustration stemming from an unexpected loss to the Newcastle in Round 2 will fuel a backlash which will come to fruition in a victory as they challenge London Irish at the latter’s new home – the Brentford Community Stadium.
Sale kicked off their campaign as many predicted they would – with a comfortable victory over Northampton. Things took a turn in Round 2, however, and Steve Diamond’s men will have their sights firmly set on victory after a result they did not anticipate.
Misfortune smiled upon Exiles in Round 1 as they were made to suffer a single-point loss to Worcester at Sixways. Things took on an encouraging new direction in Round 2, though, as Les Kiss’ charges christened their new turf with a solid victory over Leicester Tigers. Exiles looked at home and confident in that most recent encounter, the fresh surroundings seeming to bring out the best of their new, proud inhabitants. A tougher contest is on the cards this weekend, however.
Sale were found wanting up front last round and their pack will need to step up a gear into their potential if they wish to be sure of victory.
If last season is anything to go by, however, Irish will be in for a tough time, although they do already appear to be a better outfit now than they did then. The first clash ended with a 41-7 victory for Sale and the second was even harsher – 39-0 at the AJ Bell.
Exiles will be boosted by the notion of a clean slate which comes with every new season and will take the field in buoyant mood on Sunday, how long it will endure will depend on Sale’s resolve.
