- 1024
In the final pool game of the Investec Champions Cup between Connacht and Bristol Bears, we look at some of the key moments that swung the game.
7' A high tackle gives Connacht the penalty and they kick to touch. They win their line-out and swing the ball out wide and bring it back inside to put a few phases and Bolton bullies over the line for the opening try.
13' Josh Caulfield red carded for unintentionaly stepping on Bealhams head. Many would argue that is was not worthy of a red card.
18' Harry Randall is put under pressure at the maul, he throws a loose pass and Connacht pounce on it to win it back and it results in a try by Aungier.
19' Kyle sinckler recieves a yellow card.
26' Bristol recieve a scrum from a forward pass, good build up play but end losing the ball by knocking it forward.
30' Penalty at the breakdown for Bears and they kick at goal
32' Connacht win the penalty and kick to touch. They setup a maul from the line out and Blade snipes around the fringe and goes over the line for a try.
36' Bears have a good passage of play as they run it up the field and come close to scoring but are stopped 5m out. They concede a penalty for holding onto the ball.
42' Connacht recieve an attacking scrum in the Bears 22 and play it out wide to Smith who acrobatically dives into the corner but TMO rules out the try.
46' Connacht reset their attacking scrum, they win the ball back, play it out wide with a numerical advantage and Smith goes over the white line.
48' After a restart Bears play it up the field but hold on to the ball in a maul and Connacht win the penalty and opt to kick it down field.
51' Bears run it up the field and manage to make some good metres. As they try to keep it alive through an offload they knock it on at a key moment in their attack.
56' Bears attack, Janse van Rendsburg chips it ahead and Ravouvou kicks it further, catches it and carries it oever the line but knocks it forward just before grounding it. No try.
64' Bears win the penalty and kick to touch. They setup a driving maul but ends in a Connacht scrum on the 5m line. Connacht win a penalty from the scrum.
70' Bears setup an attack in Connachts 22, they swing it out wide but its intercepted and kicked down field by Hawkshaw. Ball recovered by Ibitoye but he loses as he tries to get away.
And that sadly sums the Bears performance this evening. They've lacked grit and passion. They looked flat and almost as if they didnt know what to do when they had the ball which is backed by the fact that they conceded 13 turnovers. Connacht on the other hand played for the badge, they had the energy and passion right up until the last second of the game. A great performance it was from Connacht.
Final score Connacht 27 - 10 Bristol Bears.
