Brumbies do well to hold off the Bulls
- 1180
While the score might not show it but tonight the Brumbies put together an exception performance to go over for their 7th victory of the season which kept them at the top of the Australian conference. Even though the Blue Bulls might have threatened in the first half however they will feel let down by the opening minutes of the second half as they just never got going. Short passes, dropped balls and poor defence led to the Bulls slipping further away.
We look at this evening's top performers:
Tevita Kuridrani - Brumbies
An beautiful performance. And this was defined by each of his hattrick tries. While he might have only scored his first hattrick tonight, it could not have come at the right time as the outside centre has continued to grow this season posing a real threat. His first came off a good run by Tom Cusack. The ball was sent out wide and he showed some good pace to finish off in the corner. His second try, late in the first half, was a Kuridrani classic as he ran a brilliant unders line to run over untouched. Together with his hattrick the 100kg centre was also impressive on defence making 7 tackles.
Joe Powell - Brumbies
The 25-year-old Canberra Marist College schooled scrumhalf played an instrumental role tonight for his side getting one over the Bulls tonight. Together with his 60 passes, his quick ball set the Brumbies up well to run some great lines which led to some exceptional tries. He also did well to direct the Brumbies maul and balanced the amount of ball between the forwards and the backs.
Sam Carter - Brumbies
For a period in the second half the Bulls started piecing together some good plays which looked like certain tries. However, it was the Brumbies defence led by Sam Carter which stood strong. 11 tackles were made by the towering lock as he just continued to make tackle after tackle when the Bulls tried to make their way back into the game.
Irae Simone - Brumbies
Together with Tevita Kuridrani the two centres mesmerized the Bulls tonight. While Tevita Kuridrani was scoring try after try it was the inside centre running brilliant lines to set his outside men up for some work. Irae Simone also ended the evening with a try of his own following a lovely set piece by the Brumbies backline.
