Ben Alexander staying in Australia

One player who won’t be heading overseas at the end of this year from Australia is the stalwart Brumbies prop Ben Alexander.

The 30-year-old tighthead has racked up 72 caps for the Wallabies during an international career which has spanned seven years, but Alexanders feels as though his time in Australian rugby isn't over yet.

The Brumbies are in pole position in the Australian Conference going into the final rounds of Super Rugby as they seek to win a first title since 2004 and Alexander has played a major role in their success so far, although not just through his scrummaging.

Alexander found the try line three time in two weeks earlier this season, which is great for his team but not for Scott Fardy. The two forwards both own a bar, The Dock in Canberra, where patrons are rewarded with a beer for every try Alexander or Fardy score. Still, Alexander won’t mind emptying out his wallet if it means the Brumbies triumph in Super Rugby.

“This is the fourth time I've re-signed with the Brumbies and it’s exciting for me and my family to have things sorted for another 12 months,” Alexander said.

“I've been fortunate enough to make a life and a career here in Canberra with the Brumbies. Since moving here more than a decade ago it’s become my home so I’m pleased to have things sorted and to be staying for another year.”
