Aled Walters Seeks Greener Pastures After Springbok Stint

The Springboks have announced that Aled Walters – the team’s strength and conditioning coach – will be returning to the UK to take up a post with an unnamed club from June.

Walters has been a part of the Springbok set-up since 2018 and was handpicked by then head coach Rassie Erasmus after the two crossed paths at Munster.

“It's obviously sad to lose someone of Aled's ability, but we understand that the unprecedented times we are in brings about difficult challenges and we respect his wish to return to the UK," said Erasmus, now Springbok Director of Rugby.

Erasmus went on to say that Walters had made significant contributions to the Springboks and the team would be sad to see him go.

Walters highlighted that the tenuous times currently gripping the world create a greater need to be closer to family:

"My tenure with the Springboks can be described as some of the best times I've had in rugby, but these are uncertain times and the wish to be closer to families based in Wales and Ireland was a key consideration in making what was a very hard decision," he said.

Walter’s replacement in the Springbok support staff is, as yet, unknown.
