Aaron Reed was given his marching orders on Saturday in the Champions Cup round of 16 second leg between Bristol Bears and Sale Sharks.
He made head contact with Bristol Bears' Australian outside back Luke Morahan in the 34th minute.
Referee Frank Murphy issued the red card after saying: 'No.11 has come across the pitch at speed, he has made shoulder contact directly to the players head... I am seeing it as a high level of danger.'
'I understand that the winger [Morahan] has cut back inside but he is always going across... so he [Reed] is reckless and he needs to take more care.'
'So, I don't see mitigation, I see a high level of danger. So, I am at a red card.'
