Originally hailing from Germany, Briggs is a hooker by trade who has also featured at flanker in the past.
His professional career began in 2004 at Rotherham Titans before earning a contract with Sale Sharks in 2005. Six years later Briggs moved to Bourgoin in France before returning to England with London Welsh. In the summer of 2013 it was announced that Briggs would be joining Leicester Tigers.
On 30 January 2015, Briggs re-signed with his old club Sale Sharks for the 2015/16 season onwards.
Briggs retired at the end of the 2016/17 season.
