The eldest of three siblings, Mathias grew up in Bagnols-sur-Cèze (Gard) where he also started rugby after being spotted in the street by the Juniors' coach of the town for his physical . He was then 17 years old and had devoted himself to Thai boxing, sport in which he had been titled champion of France in the young category of heavyweight. After two training sessions, Mathias finds himself playing his first match the following weekend. Conquered by sport and his mentality, he discovered himself tenacious and progressed very quickly. In the process, he is called to participate in the Pole France Marcoussis Top 100 Detection Course and is one of the 26 players chosen to join him in the 2016/2017 season. That same year,
