I support rugby passionately, and although I am a proud Englishman, I am not blinded by nationality. I can see that there are many players who have played hard and well and deserve a place in this lions squad. BUT, I do not believe that a squad consisting of so many welsh players was
consistent with the skill shown by so many others.

This has been a good tour for northern hemisphere/British/Irish rugby, but regretful that we have a coach who is so blinded yet at the same time so gifted and knowledgable to make it sad to see also.
Phillips...Davies .... BOD.... Croft... All the wrong selections.

Lets be straight here.... The sole reason Wales dominate the lions squad by numbers is because he is the welsh coach. Who would kidney or Lancaster have selected?? ... Not as many Welshmen I will wager.
What Gatland has done subsequently is the telling if the man. First, he has to pick a captain. Warburton was a fringe choice, but for Gatland it was a 'safe' choice as he knew the player. Now, do we want 'safe' choices in lions teams it selection? No, we want bold statements, an element of risk. Was will greenwood not a risk in 97 as an uncapped player??!! Of course, but he was a stand out choice and one who proved to be a 'tour maker'
All Gatland has done is go for 'safety' Davies over BOD, Falatau over Heaslip, Phillips over Youngs or Murray . This is not a lions team selected on ability or performance, it is 'Gatland playing the 'I know my boys, lets play safe' choice
In a word, very very sad to see, stupid, poorly thought through and will prove regretful

Gatland is pathetic. 10 Welshmen are way too many. I wonder how many Scottish players there would be if garland were Scotland's head coach.

Even the experts disagree with his selection, and for him to say you pick your team and then pick your captain was a very strange statement for any manager to say. Picking a team devoid of leadership hands the impetus straight to Australia before the game even starts.
