Marius Louw, originally from Bloemfontein, is a South African rugby union player who currently represents the Lions. Primarily playing as a centre, Louw has showcased his skills and potential throughout his career.
Louw's rugby journey began at a young age when he represented the Free State Cheetahs at the U13 Craven Week, a prestigious schoolboy rugby tournament in South Africa. His talent and dedication continued to shine during his high school years at the renowned Grey College Bloemfontein. He was selected twice to represent the Cheetahs at the U18 Craven Week, making notable contributions to the team's performances.
After completing his schooling, Louw joined the Sharks Academy, where he continued to develop his rugby abilities. He featured for the Sharks in various age-group competitions, including the U19, U21, and Vodacom Cups, showcasing his versatility and commitment on the field.
In 2016, Louw's potential earned him a place in the Sharks' Super Rugby squad, although he did not make an appearance. Nonetheless, he represented the UKZN Impi in the Varsity Shield competition, gaining valuable experience and exposure.
Continuing his journey with the Sharks, Louw's determination paid off as he was included in the Sharks' Currie Cup squad later that year. Although he did not make his debut for the senior team, he demonstrated his capabilities by starting in five matches for the Sharks U21 side.
The following year, Louw's hard work and perseverance led to his inclusion in the Sharks' Super Rugby squad for the 2017 season. He made his way to the bench and earned his first opportunity to play at the elite level, featuring in Super Rugby Round 15 against the Bulls.
Recognizing his potential, the Sharks extended Louw's contract in December, securing his services until 2020. However, he has since made a move to the Lions, where he continues to contribute his skills and talents as a centre.
Marius Louw's rugby journey is a testament to his passion for the sport and his ability to excel at different levels. As he continues to ply his trade with the Lions, he aims to make a significant impact on the field and contribute to the success of the team.
