The young Fiji-born wing, whose family lives in Auckland where he went to high school, is one of the least known players in the big list of new names recruited by New Zealand Super Rugby franchises for the 2012 season.
At beginning of 2012 Nemani was playing age-grade club rugby for Auckland Marist colts and was a member of the Auckland academy, having been in the New Zealand Schools team in 2009, before being recruited for Hawke's Bay as a loan player by then Magpies coach Tom Coventry, who is now an assistant coach with the Chiefs.
Nemani could have followed his father into football – a sport where Maritino Nemani Snr excelled as Fiji captain and coach – but it wasn't for him. Namani plays on the wing is a physical one on both attack and defence.
Nemani signed for NEC Green Rockets for the 2017-18 season after one season at Grenoble.
