Born in New Zealand, whom he represented at under 19 level, Boss qualified for Ireland through his Antrim born grandmother. He began his career with Waikato, before playing Super rugby with both the Hurricanes and the Chiefs. Boss joined the home province of his grand mother, Ulster, in 2005. He was instantly successful with Ulster, winning the domestic league in the 2005/2006 season. After 108 matches and 14 tries for Ulster, Boss signed with Leinster in the summer of 2010. He has enjoyed a trophy laden career with Leinster, winning two Heineken Cup medals. He has garnered admiration for his abrasive style of play and a preternatural awareness for exploiting space in opposition defences. Boss, ironically, made his debut against the land of his birth in Ireland’s 2006 summer tour of New Zealand. To date, he has earned 21 caps for Ireland.
