Fumiaki Tanaka joined the Otago ITM Cup team for the 2012 season. Tanaka had a great season for the Razorbacks and quickly became the first choice halfback. Fumiaki has a sharp pass and provides outstanding service for both forwards and backs. The first Japanese Super Rugby player, Tanaka was a welcome addition to the 2013 Highlanders squad and became a Super Rugby winner in 2015. He represented Japan in the 2015 RWC.
With the Japanese side the Sunwolves added to the Super Rugby setup, Tanaka linked up in 2016.
To date, Tanaka has 58 caps for the Brave Blossoms side.
