Fotu Auelua

29th Jan 1984 1.89m/115kg No. 8

Returning to Australia after six seasons in France, Auelua has forged a reputation as one of the competition’s most feared hard men.
Spending the majority of his time in France with European giants Toulon, Auelua enjoyed a quality professional apprenticeship working with players like Johnny Wilkinson, George Smith, Sonny-Bill Williams and Tana Umaga.
A knee injury suffered in late 2011 while playing with NTT Communications in Japan held Auelua’s debut back until week eight of the 2012 competition against the Rebels where Jake White threw the Samoan powerhouse into the deep end to start at No 8.
From there, Auelua played another six games throughout 2012, scoring his first career try in front of his family at Westpac Stadium in the Brumbies first win in Wellington over the Hurricanes since 2003.
Originally a league player who starred for the Parramatta Eels aged grade teams, Auelua was picked up by Trinity Grammar School in 2001 before switching to the Southport School on the Gold Coast midway through 2002. Featuring in both school’s 1st XVs, Auelua represented the Australian Schoolboys in 2011 before graduating to West Harbour’s first grade side after finishing school on the Gold Coast.
