An abrasive scrumhalf by nature, Sheehan has earned a reputation across the game as a quality nine. Having graduated from St.Joseph's College, Hunters Hill, Sheehan began his professional career with the Queensland Reds before moving on to the Waratahs in 2006.
Three years later Sheehan was on the move again, this time to the Western Force franchise. Sheehan made his debut for the Wallabies in 2006 when he featured in the Tri Nations Series.
