A real hard Samoan loosehead, Afatia joined Agen ahead of the 2011/12 season. He made his international debuted against Tonga in 2012 and was included in the Samoan squad ahead of the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
Following some impressive performances in the World Cup he joined Paris-based side Racing 92 on a long term deal. The 2017/18 season was a good one for him and his side as they made the knock out phases of both the Top 14 and Champions Cup
Afatia featured prominently for Racing during the 2017/18 season before signing a deal to join Bordeaux-Begles ahead of the 2018/19 season.
