Ryan Shortland made the move to Kingston Park from Otago ahead of the 2011-12 season with the ex-Melbourne Storm and New Zealand Warriors rugby league player going on to make 16 appearances for the Falcons that season. In the 2012-13 season Shortland scored six tries in 21 outings including a crucial touchdown in the RFU Championship Final second leg at home to Bedford Blues. Shortland's instinctive attacking prowess earned him a contract extension that will see him stay in the North EAst until 2014.
