Lubabalo "Gaint" Mtyanda started his youth career playing for the EP Kings and went on to debut for them in the Vodacom Cup against the Western Province in 2006. Later that year he was contracted by the Lions but failed to break into the first team. in 2009 Mtyanda join the SWD Eagles where he managed to rack up 70 senior team caps before the Pumas offered him a contract in 2013.
Since then the Sharks loaned Mtyanda during the 2014 and 2015 Super Rugby season while he still plays Currie Cup for the Pumas.
Mtyanda signed a deal to move to the Sharks permanently in 2016.
During the 2017 Super Rugby season the Southern Kings signed Mtyanda from the Sharks.
